Friday Harbor & Roche Harbor, Washington – San Juan Island – 24June2017

Went on my weekend getaway to the San Juan Islands. It was gorgeous as always. I stayed at the Trumpeter Inn for the second time. The owner, Shaun, is phenomenal and her breakfasts beat anything I have ever had. The location is quaint and cozy and just secluded enough to be a perfect getaway.

On the 24th of June, we wandered out on the Maya’s Legacy Whale Watching tours again this year. They have a couple of smaller boats that leave from Snug Harbor that only carry 6 passengers maximum. It is nice to get out and enjoy the wildlife without a huge crowd around you. No Orcas this year. They had all headed north towards canada and we ended up missing them by a day. But we did get to enjoy 2 Humpback Whales and 5 Minke Whales during our cruise.

On the way to the whale watching tour, we swung by the Sculpture Park that resides in Roche Harbor. It has some beautiful pieces by artists placed in the park. The trails are fantastic to wander and enjoy the outdoors.

On the 25th of June, we decided on a afternoon jaunt on the Spike Africa. A beautiful schooner sailboat that has been restored to original. It has so much history behind it. The entire 80 foot sailboat can actually be run by one person.

On the 26th of June, we ended our journey by wandering around the mini market in Roche Harbor, before heading to the ferries to head back to mainland of Washington.

The weekend was beautiful and relaxing as always. I cannot wait to head back there next summer. I hope I might move to the islands one day.
