At the end of May 2017, I decided to hop out to Maui to try some diving out there before I headed to Oahu for a scheduled tattoo. I saw that Lahaina Divers had a Hammerhead Charter and a charter that went to the Backwall of Molokini.
Diving with the scalloped hammerheads was incredible, but I was unable to get any decent photos. There were only 2 scalloped hammerheads on the first dive. I saw 4 total on the second dive, two separate pairs. After the day was over. I found out I was a couple months too early to see the large groups of scalloped hammerheads. Apparently they tend to be out in bigger numbers once the whales have left.
Day 2 of diving, I went to the Backwall of Molokini. That was a pretty dive, but honestly… it reminded me of most of the diving I have already done in the Hawaiian Islands.
Overall, it was a good side trip and Maui is a beautiful island to be on.
