As I think about past travels, one that pops up in my mind is Roatan, Honduras. My first experience there was in December of 2015. I went with a group of divers from a dive center in Kitsap County. I found the diving to be unique and beautiful for a tropical location. I appreciated the care they took of their reefs. Divemasters would make sure people stayed off the reefs and did not let people take shells or souvenirs from the ocean, unless it was trash.

I loved going down to West End via their version of a taxi. I would leave the resort and walk out to the main road to hail a driver. I never knew if I was going to be the only one in the vehicle or if there were others that would be hopping in. Sometimes, I was squeezing in with preexisting customers. The people I met were friendly and unique. I honestly felt at home there.
I loved it so much that July of 2016, I spent a month living there furthering my professional training as a scuba diver. I found that I loved Anthony’s Key Resort (AKR) as a training facility. I also loved living on the island despite it not being as modern as I am used to. I hope to return one day.
